Anth

Before Anthony Melo became the rapper better known as “Anth”, he was a regular kid going to school, dating girls, hanging with friends and simply living his life. He grew up listening to a lot of rap music and artists such as Eminem and Big L. At that time, Anth was solely interested in listening to music, rather than making it. He attended Thomas Edison High School and played soccer for his high school team and loved to skateboard in his spare time. It wasn’t until Anth’s junior year that he found out his passion for making music. He soon noticed himself drifting away from soccer and skateboarding, and all of his attention was shifting directly towards music. It was during Anth’s senior year in high school that he realized the website YouTube was more than just a website to waste time in class, it was a gateway for artists to share their music with the world.

“I still remember when I posted my first video on YouTube, I was so hesitant to upload a video, worried about what people would say and whether or not they’d like me, I saw so many other artists using YouTube to get their name out there, so I thought I’d give it a try as well. A couple of months went by and my first couple videos didn’t even have 500 views, let alone 5 comments. I only had about 100 subscribers that I could barely even call fans. It became really frustrating. I then met who I think is the most amazing singer I’ve ever met in my life, a 17 year old kid from the UK named Conor Maynard. Conor was also just like me when we met. He had no fans, no views and no subscribers. We were both completely unknown artists with not the slightest bit of fame. We were fans of each others work so we decided to make music together from sunrise to sundown. Before I knew it, I skyrocketed on YouTube; each of my videos were receiving millions of views, thousands of new subscribers every day and I was getting calls/emails every week from major record labels and managers. It was all so crazy to take in.”

After Anth graduated High School, he attended college  for three semesters and was still making YouTube Videos/Music with his fan base increasing rapidly. During Anth’s third semester in College, a week before finals, he was given his first opportunity to be flown out to the UK to work with an International Major Record Label. Anth then had to make the very important decision to either continue with school while putting music second, or leave school and put his music first to pursue his dream in the music industry.

“A lot of people always ask me if I ever regret dropping out of college, sacrificing my social life, friendships and relationships, all for my music. I then stop and think how crazy my life has grown to be now. I would have never imagined myself being where I am today, doing all the things I’ve done and having the best fans anyone could ever ask for. I could never regret it. This is the life I’ve always wanted to live and now that I’m living it, I could never let it go. I only plan to move forward with my music career and never take what I have for granted. The music business is one of the most difficult businesses to succeed in and what you put into your music is what you’ll get out of it. You always have to give it your all, because no matter how hard you might work to be in the position you are in today, there is always someone willing to work three times as hard as you to take that spot away from you. I’ve dedicated my entire life to music and I’ve sacrificed everything to achieve what I have now and to stand where I am today. Now that I’m here, I can always promise one thing. I sure as hell don’t plan on budging any time soon.”

Anth has also worked with major record label Hollywood Record’s band, Allstar Weekend. Anth was featured on their first single “Not your birthday” off their second studio album “All the Way”.  The single’s music video was played on television channels such as Much Music, The Family Channel, The Disney Channel and MTV Networks. The single was also featured on the soundtrack to Disney’s movie, “Prom”, which was released in theatres nationwide. Anth also toured with Allstar Weekend on the “Glamour Kills Tour”. Anth is now currently in the studio working daily on his album.
