Phil Laboon turns Wedding Disaster into a Way to Help Others…

August 28, 2014 -- Published by

One of the most unfortunate parts of the human experience is heart break, and at one point in our lives, we’ve all had to deal with it. What’s even worse, it can come at any time, especially when you least expect it. This can be brought on by the loss of a pet or loved one, your favorite TV show getting cancelled mid-season, or a relationship not working out with your significant other. How you handle the heart break is what truly defines your character. Sorry everyone, cuddling up and drowning your sorrows with a bottle of vodka is never the answer.

So let’s introduce a good friend of our business, Phil Laboon. Phil was set to be married in just a few days on August 31st, but, due to some undisclosed reasons, the wedding was called off. What’s even worse, more than $15,000 was already spent on the wedding’s reception! Could you imagine not only having to deal with the heart ache of an estranged engagement but also the extreme heart ache of your new bank account deficit…

In a world where everyone is pouring buckets of ice on their head in the name of charity, history has never presented a better time to continue raising awareness for other charitable organizations. And that is exactly where the silver lining of this story lies. As opposed to instinctively running to the wide open arms of that dark cloud of depression, Laboon instead found a positive way to use his special day to help heal others. Now, on what would have been Laboon’s wedding reception he will instead host a charity event benefiting Surgicorps International, an organization who provides free surgical and medical care to disadvantaged individuals around the world.

When life hands you lemons, make LemonAID” is the theme behind the event and 100% of the proceeds will be going to benefit Surgicorps. To read more about the story please read the more in depth WPXI article. The event for August 31st is sold out but there will soon be another event coming up on October 10th, 2014. For now, we urge our readers to do one of two things: donate directly to the cause or share this article with a friend. Sharing costs nothing more than a small bit of your time…
